East Staffordshire Osteoarthritis Support and Management Workshop

We invite you to the East Staffordshire Osteoarthritis Support and Management Workshop.

Why have I been invited to this event?

You have been invited to this event because you have previously seen a healthcare professional within your GP practice with joint pain. They have explained that you have osteoarthritis of the hip and knee. This event has been set up by your GP practice, community healthcare provider, and services available in your community to make sure that you are aware of, and have access to, all the services who can support you to live your best life with joint pain.

What’s going to happen?

First, you will attend a group session which will give you up-to-date information about osteoarthritis, how you can manage it and what support you have in your local area. You will then have a conversation with a member of the community team. This will help us to understand what matters to you with respect to your joint pain. Together, you will explore the best options available to support you and discuss any concerns you may have.

You may be advised to self-refer into healthcare services for further treatment or support, or occasionally it might be suggested to discuss matters with your GP.

How long will it take?

It can be as quick as 30 minutes but to get the best out of the event, you should expect to be at the venue for about an hour.

What is Osteoarthritis?

Osteoarthritis (or OA) is a condition that affects the whole joint and the muscles surrounding it. Over time, our joints naturally wear and repair themselves. OA is when there is more wear than repair.

Everybody experiences OA differently: some people have no pain at all. Sometimes you might have no difficulties but at other times, you might.

Lots of things can affect whether or not you are feeling pain. For example, your level of activity, whether you have an injury or trauma, as well as how you are feeling in yourself.

Attached to this booklet are some information leaflets that might be useful and will tell you more about how to manage your arthritis. This will be explained further in the session today.
